LAW
Leadership Awareness Workshop (LAW), a club created for sixth graders, focuses on the work, words, and wisdom of Nelson Mandela, the first black president of South Africa. The club is based on the book, Mandela’s Way, written by Richard Stengel, a philosophical guide on the life, survival, and triumph of this great leader. Members of L.A.W. are required to complete at least ten community service hours.

Article I. Name
The name of this Organization shall be Leadership Awareness Workshop
(L.A.W.).
Article II. Purpose
L.A.W., comprised of the Warren School Sixth Grade, is committed to the study and development of leadership, community service, and school spirit . Biography subjects such as Nelson Mandela, Abraham Lincoln, and John Wooden will be studied and discussed.

Article II. Purpose

Article III. Membership
- Members:
- The members of this organization shall be currently enrolled sixth grade students at the James Morris Elementary School.
- Privileges and Responsibilities of Membership:
- Voting: Each member is entitled to one vote; majority of votes will determine election decisions.
- Privileges: Each member shall be entitled to all services of the organization.
- Participation: Each member shall be entitled to participate in all organizational events.
- Responsibilities: Each member shall stay in good academic/behavior standing as determined by classroom teachers.
- Each L.A.W. member will complete a minimum of ten community service hours to be logged and verified by supervising adult. Hours must be completed by the end of the first week in June.
Article IV. Membership Meetings
- L.A.W. meetings of the membership will be held on a weekly basis.
- The President of L.A.W. may call other meetings giving members at least two days notice.
Article V. Officers
- L.A.W. members shall have the following officers elected from the current membership. In order to run for a specific office, each candidate must deliver a 2-3 minute speech outlining their qualifications and vision. Speeches must be approved by faculty advisor(s). If there is no candidate for vice-president, the second-place candidate for president will be the vice-president. All officers of L.A.W. cannot hold an office in student council.

- Duties of Officers:
- The President shall preside at all meetings and be responsible for setting the agenda with the approval of the faculty advisor.
- The Vice-President shall act in the absence of the President and oversee all committee work.
- The Secretary shall take minutes of meetings, monitor attendance and be responsible for counting funds.
- The Treasurer will be responsible for counting funds and overseeing fundraising efforts.
- The Faculty Advisor(s) shall oversee students, assist in setting agendas and communicate with classroom teachers.
